It was the desire and imagination of two young men that gave birth to the idea of a communications company around 1885. With 2 operating switchboards, 80 phones were on line by 1890. The company was sold in the early 1900’s to the Union Telephone Exchange. In 1958, the Union Telephone Exchange was incorporated into the New Windsor Telephone Company. Housed in a residential home until 1967, the company constructed a new dial office with a single–party dial line analog system. The analog switch was replaced in December 1988 with a digital switch. Recent upgrades include burying all the telephone and cable lines, installing fiber and nodes in rural areas and constructing a new business office in 2000. Our latest upgrade is installing a new softswitch to enable us to offer a new class of telephone features. Through the years, New Windsor Telephone has strived to meet our customer’s needs and to provide exceptional prompt service. It will be our pleasure to continue that service as we enter our 50th year in 2008. |
